Police are appealing for information after a house in Tommy Green Walk, Eastleigh, was subject to an attempted arson attack.
Between 11pm on Monday, August 10 and 7.55am on Tuesday, August 11, paper and other items were pushed through the letter box in the front door of the house, and then set alight.
The fire did not take hold and went out, leaving no damage to the door and minor burn marks on the carpet in the hallway of the property.
A window at the back of the house was also found to have been broken – officers believe this was part of the same incident.
Detective Sergeant Philip Jones said, “This type of incident is rare in this area, and we believe it may have been a random attack. I would urge anyone who heard or saw anything to contact us as soon as possible – playing with fire is extremely dangerous and this incident had the potential for being much worse.”
