Detectives are appealing for witnesses after an aggravated burglary which took place on the evening of Monday, May 4.
At 9.30pm, a 43-year-old man answered a knock to the front door of his flat in Hanover Street.
Two men were at the door, both dressed in dark clothing and wearing balaclavas. They pushed the man back into the property and followed him in.
One of the visitors spoke to the man and called him by his first name, though he recognised neither of them.
The man who had spoken said he knew there was money in the property, referring to the takings from the pub where the homeowner worked. He then escorted the man to the bedroom to find it.
The second man, who was holding a metal pole, stayed downstairs, where the man’s wife and two teenaged children were sat in the lounge.
When the man was unable to find the money, his wife was allowed upstairs to help him.
The two men left after the money, a total of £465, was given to them.
No one was injured during the incident.
Detective Constable Katie Wakefield said, “This was a very distressing incident for the family involved, and we want to identify these men as soon as possible.
“We believe that these two men may know the man they targeted, or may have followed him at some point. If you can provide us with any information please do contact the police.“
