Police appeal after affray in Portsmouth

Police are appealing for witnesses to an incident where a large group were involved in a fight outside of the Tesco store on Elm Grove, Portsmouth.

At around 11.15pm on Saturday, December 20, police attended after reports of a large group involved in an altercation.

On police arrival one man, a 29-year-old from Southsea, was seen on the ground, being punched and kicked by others.

Another man, a 22-year-old from Fareham, received a bite to his cheek as a result of the incident, and was taken to Queen Alexandra hospital for treatment.

PC Marcus Phelps said, “This incident involved a large group and would have been seem or heard by residents, as well as other people travelling through the area or using the Tesco shop. I would ask anyone who can help to contact us as soon as possible”

A 19-year-old man from Cosham, an 18-year-old from Southsea, and a 20-year-old, also from Southsea, were arrested on suspicion of affray and have been released on bail, to return on February 23, 2009.
