Officers working on the investigations into an armed robbery at Dean Wood scrap metal dealers, on Friday, October 7, are appealing for help to identify three or more witnesses who may have seen the Vauxhall Vectra involved, after it left the Stubbs Lane industrial estate and before it was set on fire in woods off Lock Road.
The first person police need to speak to is a man who had been cycling through the area and stopped at the scene of the fire just after 11:50am. He told another woman there that he had seen the Vectra leave the scrap yard.
This man is described as:
- Possibly in his late 50s
- Around 6 feet tall
- Long grey hair and wearing a black ‘beanie’ hat
- Wearing a jacket that had hi-visibility parts
- Carrying a bag with black straps
Officers have been told about a group of university or college students conducting a survey in the area around Government Road on Friday morning, and need to speak to them about what they may have seen.
Lastly, a number of cottages that overlook the site of the fire are having building work done at the moment and officers need to speak to anyone who was working on these properties on Friday between 10am and 12 noon.
Detective Inspector Julian Venner said: “None of these people are suspects but they may hold important information and we need to speak to them urgently.
“Does the man on the cycle sound like your dad or someone you work with? Are you one of the students or builders? Please call us on 101 so that we can find out if these people saw anything that could help us identify these offenders.”
