Operation Steep - Family statement and official identification of Southampton murder victim

Police investigating the murder of woman in Southampton are now in a position to officially identify the victim, she was Margaret Kibuuka, aged 40.

Margaret was found dead in her home in Richville Road, Shirley shortly before  9am on Sunday, November 8.

She originated from Uganda but had lived in the UK with her husband and children for a number of years.

Speaking on behalf of her family her sister Victoria said: “The whole family both here in the UK and in Uganda are very shocked about what happened. It is hard to believe Margaret is no longer with us. As you can imagine this has left us very traumatised.

“We don’t want to believe this could possibly happen and are fully supporting the police in the investigation. If there is anyone who thinks they have information that could help the police please get in contact with them.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Operation Steep Team at the Major Crime Department in Hulse Road on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

An injured man in his 40s was also found in the house and taken to Southampton General Hospital where he is still undergoing treatment. He is currently in a stable condition in intensive care.

Detectives are currently trying to establish the circumstances leading to the woman’s death, which will include speaking to the injured man when he is medically fit to be interviewed.
