Police are appealing for information following a collision which left a 92-year-old woman in hospital.
The crash happened shortly after 3.20pm yesterday (Dec 7) as the red Mazda hatchback travelled from Sandown towards Bembridge on the B3395 Longlands Shute.
For reasons to be established, the vehicle left the road and collided with a tree before rebounding back towards the carriageway and overturning, blocking the road.
The driver, a 73-year-old Bembridge woman, and the 92-year-old passenger were helped from the vehicle by members of the public.
The passenger was then airlifted to St Marys Hospital by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. She remains there today in a stable condition.
The driver was taken to St Marys Hospital by Ambulance, but later released after treatment.
Officers from the Roads Policing Unit attended to carry out an examination of the scene. The road remained closed until 11pm.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash or who saw the vehicle prior to the collision to contact the Roads Policing Unit at Shanklin Police Station on 101, quoting Operation Prunella.
