Police are appealing for witnesses after a collision involving a motorcycle and a car at the junction of Upper Road and High Street, West End in Southampton.

The crash happened at about 8.50pm on Monday as the car, a green Ford Fiesta, and the motorcycle, a Yamaha XJ6, negotiated the junction.

For reasons yet to be established the vehicles collided, forcing the motorcyclist, an 18-year-old West End man, off the bike and into the road.

He sustained serious leg and head injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

The driver of the Fiesta, a 19-year-old West End man, was uninjured.
