Police are continuing their appeal for witnesses after an incident where a man was attacked and sustained serious head injuries in Southampton.
At around 11.35pm on Tuesday, June 8, a 24-year-old man on a bike was beaten up by a group of people on Central Bridge.
The man suffered serious head injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
Prior to the incident taking place, the group thought to be involved had walked from Woolston across the Itchen Bridge, heading towards the city.
There were four people in the group; three men and a woman. One man was carrying a box which is thought to have been a case of beer, and the woman was wearing a bright pink top.
Detective Chief Inspector Kath Barnes said, “We are continuing our appeal for anyone who may have seen or heard the attack itself, or perhaps seen the group earlier in the evening. The location where the assault took place is in an alleyway that has been created as a walk through whilst building works are ongoing on Central Bridge, and there may have been people who were nearby and not realised it, because this area is normally far more open and accessible.
“We are also appealing for information from anyone who was with the group. Maybe you spent time with them before the incident and then went home or on somewhere else – you may have vital information that could assist in determining exactly what happened, and I would urge you to contact us as soon as possible.”
An 18-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man, both from the Southampton area, were arrested on Friday, June 11 and are still in police custody.
