Operation Hopscotch: Four charged in connection with death of polish man in Southampton
Press Releases
Published:
20/05/2010
Detectives from the major crime team at Hulse Road have charged four people in connection with the death of Polish man, Wieslaw Filus, in Southampton.
The charges come nine months after his death. Police launched a murder investigation after Mr Filus’ body was discovered on Saturday July 18, last year in a bedsit in Denzil Avenue since then police have been undertaking a long and thorough investigation.
Six men were arrested shortly afterwards in connection with the incident and have been on bail ever since while police investigated.
Now four of those men have been charged one with manslaughter.
They are:
Boguslaw Chmiel, aged 30 from Denzil Avenue, Southampton, charged with Manslaughter and perverting the course of justice.
Marcin Zonca, aged 28 from Denzil Avenue, Southampton, charged with perverting the course of justice.
Krzysztof Szalus, aged 27 from Bevois Valley Road, Southampton charged with perverting the course of justice.
Waldemar Misiak, aged 49 from Denzil Avenue, Southampton charged with perverting the course of justice.
The other two men originally arrested have been release without charge.
Officers say the investigation is continuing. They believe more than one person may be responsible for the death of Mr Filus. Last month they offered a £10,000 reward for information that helped them catch the killer or killers. Officers say that reward will still stand for any further significant information which leads to anyone else being charged with the death of Mr Filus.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Operation Hopscotch Team at Hulse Road on 101. Polish speakers should call 02380 599969.
The four people charged are due to appear before Lyndhurst Magistrates on Thursday, 20 May.
