Operation Chimes – man critically injured in Alresford crash

Police are appealing for information following a crash in which a man was critically injured.

The collision between an Scania LGV and a Ford BT van occurred on the eastbound carriageway of the A31 Alresford Road, Alresford, shortly after 6.20am yesterday.

The driver of the BT van, a 54-year-old man from Eastleigh, received extensive life threatening injuries and fire crews spend three hours working to release him before he was taken to Southampton general Hospital by road ambulance . He remains in a critical condition in hospital.

The driver of the LGV, a 41-year-old Barnstaple man, was uninjured.

The road was closed for nine hours while accident investigators examined the scene and awaited recovery for both vehicles. It was re-opened at 3.30pm.
