Operation Channel – Man charged following serious crash on A27 in which officer injured
Police have today (September 16) charged a man in connection with a crash on the A27 in which a police officer was seriously injured.
Rosario Melacrinis, aged 52, of Eversley Crescent, Havant, has been charged with driving without due care and attention.
Shortly before 10am on June 9, 2010, police received reports of a single vehicle crash on the eastbound carriageway near to the junction for Portsmouth.
A black Mini Cooper had come off the road.
Officers from the Roads Policing Unit at Fratton were dispatched to the scene.
PC Nick Oliver was one of the officers sent to deal with the incident and while at the scene, was struck by another vehicle, a white Vauxhall Corsa Van.
All emergency services attended the scene and PC Oliver was taken to Southampton General Hospital by ambulance with a police escort.
The driver of the Mini Cooper was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth, for treatment.
PC Oliver sustained serious injuries and spent almost two months in hospital recovering. He has now been released from hospital and is continuing his recovery with his family at home.

Notes to editors –
Rosario Melacrinis is due to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates Court on September 24.
PC Oliver does not wish to speak to the media at this time and we ask that his wishes are respected.
