Police are appealing for witnesses to a road traffic collision on Northern Parade in Portsmouth last night.
At around 10.45pm, a blue Vauxhall Vectra travelling south mounted the kerb and collided with a residential wall close to the junction with Gladys Avenue.
The driver, a 48-year-old Bedhampton man, was taken by ambulance to the Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham, in a critical condition.
There was no-one else in the car at the time and no other vehicles were involved.
Neither the vehicle nor the wall was seriously damaged.
Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the Vectra driving prior to it.
