Operation Bergman – police appeal for information following serious collision in Newport, Isle of Wight

Police are appealing for information following a serious collision in Newport, Isle of Wight.

An elderly woman is in a critical condition in St Mary’s Hospital after being involved in a collision with a car as she crossed the road at the junction between Pyle Street and High Street outside Fox Property.

Police were called to the incident shortly after 12.30pm today.

It involved the 84-year-old local woman and a red Rover 400 driven by a 51-year-old local man.

High Street is closed at its junction with Pyle Street to allow officers to conduct a full investigation and the junction between Carisbrooke Road and Mill Lane is also closed causing congestion in and around the town.

It is not known how long the roads will remain closed.
