Hampshire Constabulary can confirm that the man who died in a collision on the A3 on Thursday was Graeme Peacock of Lancing, West Sussex.
Mr Peacock, who was walking in lane one of the southbound carriageway at Greatham Moor lay-by, near Liss, was in collision with a white Ford transit panel van travelling in lane two.
Officers were called shortly after 2pm. The 46-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the van, a 39-year-old man from Portsmouth and the passenger, also a Portsmouth man, were uninjured but were treated for shock.
The southbound carriageway was closed by the Highways Agency from where it meets the A325 at Longmoor. It was re-opened shortly before 4.30pm.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone who saw either Mr Peacock or the panel van prior to the crash, to call Sgt Wayne Voller of Fratton Roads Policing Unit on 101, quoting Operation Bellhop.
