The incident happened at 8.44am yesterday (August 31) at the junction of Cromwell Road and Highland Road and involved the cyclist - a 50-year-old Southsea man – and a silver Mercedes C200, driven by a 78-year-old Southsea woman.

The cyclist suffered serious head and back inuries and was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham for treatment. He remains in hospital today but his injuries are not considered life threatening.

The driver of the Mercedes was shaken but uninjured. Witnesses to the crash, or anyone with information, are asked to call PC Stephen Johnson at Fratton Roads Policing Unit, quoting Operation Ashbridge.

Alternatively, call the charity Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously.
