Men arrested on suspicion of murder

Detectives from Hampshire Constabulary’s Major Crime Department have made two arrests for the suspected murder of a man in Winchester.
Stuart David Horsman was taken ill at Winchester Railway Station on the morning of Wednesday, August 3, 2011. He was taken to the Royal Hampshire County Hospital for treatment. The 34-year-old from Winchester died later that day. A post-mortem examination concluded that Mr Horsman died as a result of internal bleeding.
Two men, aged 58 and 32, from the Winchester area were arrested separately on Saturday, August 6, 2011. These two suspects were taken into custody for questioning at different police stations in Hampshire. A police family liaison officer has contacted Mr Horsman’s next-of-kin to inform them of the arrests.
Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Dick Pearson said: “Our enquiries remain focused on the possibility Mr Horsman was assaulted in the days prior to his death.
“Mr Horsman was regularly seen with friends in the underpass that runs from the taxi rank outside the station, underneath the railway itself, and out to Stockbridge Road. He was very well known in the Winchester area.
“Local officers were at Winchester railway station yesterday (Friday, August 5) to appeal for information from rail commuters. We would like to thank all those members of the public who spoke with police. Establishing the significance of the responses to our appeals so far is part of our ongoing enquiries.
“A further line of enquiry is looking into whether Mr Horsman could have been assaulted at an earlier time last month. The investigation is now examining his whereabouts from the morning of Monday, July 25 through until the afternoon of Wednesday, August 3.
“I remain keen to speak with anyone who has witnessed an assault on Mr Horsman. Equally, I would also like to hear from people who knew Mr Horsman and have any information about his lifestyle recently.”
