A man has been arrested and released on police bail following a fire at a house in Newcomen Road, Portsmouth, on February 10.
The 42-year-old man from Fratton was arrested by police shortly after the incident earlier this week.
Police are now appealing for anyone who has any knowledge of the fire to come forward.
Police were called to the address by Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service just after 4.30pm, following reports of smoke coming from the address.
On arrival the home owner was found to be inside the address, and was removed by police, before being taken to Queen Alexandra hospital for treatment.
Detective Constable Katie Wakefield said, “This was a serious incident and the man inside the house was fortunate not to have been more seriously injured. We are treating this fire as an arson and I would ask that anyone who has any knowledge of what happened to contact police as a matter of urgency.
”I would also like to speak to anyone who has been to the address before, and particularly if they have visited recently, to see if they can assist with our enquiries.”
The arrested man has been released on police bail until April 16.
