Police in Southampton are appealing for witnesses after a 69-year-old man was mugged just after getting out of a taxi in Southampton. The victim was dropped off in Ennerdale Road in Shirley between 9.15 and 9.30pm after a night out on Monday, May 4.
The man, who was unsteady on his feet as he left the taxi, was approached by another man aged in his late teens. This man told the taxi driver he would make sure the victim was okay whilst in parked his taxi.
The taxi driver parked nearby and as he turned around he saw the victim collapse to the ground and he said the man had mugged him and taken his wallet.
He suffered a broken nose in the incident.
The robber was seen to ride off on cycle in the company of another similar aged man towards Maybush Road.
The victim was taken to hospital. He had his wallet taken in the robbery which contained £150.
The man who mugged him is described as white and around 5ft 9 inches tall. He had short dark hair and was wearing a white top and black trousers.
PC Matt Buck said: “I am appealing for any witnesses who may have been in the nearby area at the time. This is a nasty mugging whereby a 69-year-old man has received serious injuries and has been robbed of all of his money. I am also appealing for the second man whose part in this robbery is unclear to come forward and assist police with their enquiries.”
Anyone with information is asked to call PC Buck at the Street Robbery Investigation Team at Hulse Road on 0845 045 45 45 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
A 17-year-old youth was arrested in connection with the incident and has since been released on bail while enquiries continue.
