Man in intensive care in Holland after suspected attack in Southampton
Press Releases
Published:
07/11/2008
A man has been left in intensive care in hospital in Holland after, it’s believed, being attacked while visiting his home town of Southampton.
The 41-year-old man, who works abroad, had been home for a visit. He had been out for the evening on Sunday, November 2, when he was dropped off by a taxi in Hinkler Road at sometime between 11 and 11.30pm.
Officers don’t know what exactly happened to him next but the indications are that he was assaulted and possibly robbed.
He did not report the incident to the police and instead flew to Belgium and then met up with colleagues in Holland.
They later found him unconscious and bleeding from the head just a few hours after he arrived. He was taken to hospital and Dutch police were alerted. His condition is said to be critical but stable.
Dutch officers believe his injuries could only have been caused by an assault and police both here and in Holland are now trying to find out exactly where the likely attack happened and who is responsible. They have not yet been able to speak to the victim because of his condition.
A Southampton taxi driver has been able to tell officers he had dropped the victim off in Hinkler Road between Warburton Road and Baxter Road. It’s known a small blue car pulled into Baxter Road about the same time.
Officers are asking for any witnesses or anyone with information about what happened to contact them. They would also like to hear from anyone who was in the small blue car as they may be vital witnesses to what happened or where the victim went.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Operation Outrigger team at Shirley CID on 0845 045 45 45 or call Crimestoppers, the charity, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
