Man ends up in hospital after attack in Southampton

A Southampton man has been admitted to hospital after being assaulted by two men as he walked along a Southampton street.
The victim, who is from the city and believed to be in his late 40s, suffered fractured ribs in the attack which happened on Wednesday evening, July 28 in Church Street, Shirley.
Passers-by saw the attack and called police and an ambulance which took the injured man to Southampton General Hospital.
The assault, which detectives are treating as grievous bodily harm, took place near to the junction of Wordsworth Street around 7.50pm.
Witnesses are being urged to contact Detective Sergeant Chris Yates at Shirley CID on 101 or call alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
A 22 and a 21-year-old man from Southampton have been arrested in connection with the offence and have since been released on bail until September 14 while enquiries continue.
