A 22-year-old man has been charged in connection with the death of a Southampton student in 2007.

Lukasz Banasik, a Polish national, was flown back from Poland yesterday (Tuesday, October 27). On arrival at Biggin Hill, he was arrested by officers from Hampshire Constabulary and transported into custody at Eastleigh police station.

Banasik has been charged with:
Causing death by dangerous driving;
Driving without due care and attention
Failing to stop after a Road Traffic Incident
Failure to report a Road Traffic Incident
Driving without insurance
Driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

He will appear before Southampton Magistrates Court this morning.

The charges follow a two year long investigation by officers from the Roads Policing Unit into the death of Gavin Hustler-Brown.

Mr Hustler-Brown, a promising international-standard diver, died after being struck by a blue Vauxhall Astra as he walked near the Hobbit Pub, in Bevois Valley Road, Portswood on April 27, 2007.

Gavin, originally from Yorkshire, was a first year Criminology student at university in Southampton. The car involved in the incident was later found abandoned in Alma Road, Southampton.
