Man arrested in connection with stabbing near Six Dials, Southampton

Police in Southampton have arrested a man in connection with an incident that led to two men ending up with stab wounds.

Two men in their twenties are know to have received stab wound in the Brintons Road area of the city between 12.50am and 1am on Sunday. August 2.

Hampshire Ambulance Service received a 999 call from one of the men at about 12.50am and attended the area of Six Dials, Southampton soon after. The man was found to have a number of stab wounds and his injuries were considered serious.

Once at hospital with the man police discovered another victim of the same incident - a man aged 24 had gone there of his own accord with a serious stab wound. Both men have been treated at Southampton General Hospital for their injuries and one had to undergo emergency surgery.

The investigation is being run from Bitterne Police Station under the code name "Operation Attache".

A large area of Trinity Road and Northam Road was sealed off and specialist search officers and crime scene investigators examined the area. Detectives are also carrying out house to house enquiries in the area.

Police are appealing for witnesses who may have been in the area of Brintons Road, Trinity Road, or Northam Road between 12.30am and around 1am to come forward and assist officers in piecing together how the men came by their injuries and who is responsible.

A 42-year-old man has  been arrested, questioned and released on police bail in connection with this incident until mid-October while enquiries continue.
