Police are appealing for information after a man was assaulted whilst on a night out with friends in Portsmouth.

Between 12.15am and 12.45am on Sunday, September 27, a 21-year-old man was walking down Park Road, making his way to Gunwharf Quays with a small group of friends.

A second group was approaching them, and a man from the second group suddenly punched the 21-year-old man in the face as he passed, causing him to fall to the ground and briefly lose consciousness.

The injured man attended the Queen Alexandra hospital for treatment to a cut near his eye and a fractured cheek bone.

Detective Constable Toby Wilson said, “This was a completely unprovoked attack on a man which has caused him a very painful injury, and I would appeal for anyone who witnessed this incident to contact us as soon as possible.”

A 19-year-old man from Southampton was arrested in relation to the incident and has been bailed to return on December 1.
