Police in Portsmouth are recruiting for Special Constables this weekend, providing a unique opportunity to get an insight into the role.

On Sunday, June 8 there are three taster sessions running at Southsea police station, Highland Road, and anyone can come along to find out more about being a ‘special’ and whether they feel they could carry out such an important and fulfilling job.

Sessions are at 9am, 11am and 1pm, and each will include a presentation with details of exactly what Special Constables do on a day to day basis, and how they fit into the larger organisation of the constabulary.

There will be people who already work as ‘specials’ on hand to answer any questions and give practical answers to help you on your path to applying for the role.

Refreshments will be provided.

Inspector Lee Fryatt said, “I would encourage anyone who has ever thought of joining the police as a Special Constable, or in fact anyone who may be looking for a new challenge, to book themselves in for one of the sessions on Sunday. It is a role where your work will vary every day and it’s an important commitment, so this event is an ideal way to find all the information you need.”

Anyone who wishes to attend one of the sessions should contact April Brown, Special Constabulary Coordinator, at Cosham police station on 02392 891613.
