Hampshire Constabulary’s response to HMIC reports ‘Valuing the Police’ and ‘Sustaining Value for Money in the Police Service’

Responding to today’s publications by the HMIC, Chief Constable Alex Marshall said: “Hampshire Constabulary is already conducting a full review of its systems and practices in order to ensure we can make our contribution to the reduction in public sector spending whilst maintaining our strength in frontline policing.

“Our priority has to be in protecting the communities of the two counties, catching criminals, and ensuring we have a visible and active presence in every neighbourhood.

“The full details of the savings required of us won’t be known until after the government’s Comprehensive Savings Review in October, but at this time we are scoping for 25 per cent cut over the next four years.

“Although it won’t be easy and it is a difficult time for staff, we are confident that we can achieve this through finding efficiencies in our structure and practices, and make the very best use of the resources available to us.”
