Family statement following death of Luke Francis
Press Releases
Published:
24/11/2008
The family of Luke Francis have today released the following statement:
Luke was energetic, popular and a very caring son who will be deeply missed by his mum Rosie, dad Ian and brother Joshua (JD), who have said “the loss of Luke will leave a huge void that can never be filled, his smile would light up a room”.
Luke lived his short life to the full. He had ridden bikes since he was two years old and enjoyed sports such as swimming and water polo. Luke also had a passion for hockey; he was a former member of Havant and City of Portsmouth hockey clubs and had represented Hampshire at county level.
Luke attended Copnor infant and junior schools, then went on to Mayfield senior school. Luke finished his education at Highbury College where he studied mechanics for two years.
Luke sometimes took on the role of Frogmore the Portsmouth Football Club mascot. He attended Reading Star events at Portsmouth, Baffins and Cosham libraries, and various other charity events including the Portsmouth Autistic group, attending one of their parties at Admiral Lord Nelson School.
Last night (Sunday, November 23), Luke’s brother Joshua, girlfriend Donna and over a 100 of Luke’s friends gathered at Shearer Road to say “good bye”. Many tributes had been posted on Luke’s Facebook site throughout the day and friends organised their farewell via the site. Flowers and cans of Luke’s favourite lager were left as tributes. Joshua said that he “gained great comfort from knowing Luke was so well liked and loved, and was amazed at the turnout”.
The family would like to thank the team at Queen Alexandra hospital who fought so valiantly to resuscitate Luke, to the police for their handling of the investigation, and for all the support they have received.
Notes to Editors: Luke’s family have asked that members of the media respect their privacy at this difficult time and that they are left in peace to grieve. Any media requests should be directed through the Media and Corporate Communications Team at Fratton police station on 02392 891540 / 02392 892690.
