The family of a man who died while out cycling with friends on the Hampshire / Berkshire border has paid tribute to him.

Malcolm Lewis, of Woodlands Road, Baughurst, was part of a group of cyclists who left the Pineapple public house in Brimpton Common at about 5.30pm on Thursday June 3.

The group was headed along Hockford Lane towards Ashford Hill when Mr Lewis fell from his bike.

The 60-year-old sustained severe head injuries and was taken to North Hampshire Hospital in Basingstoke.

He died as a result of his injuries later that evening.

Mr Lewis’ family has released the following statement – “Malcolm sadly passed away after a tragic pedal cycling accident.

“Although he will be sadly missed, we have comfort in knowing he died doing something he loved. He leaves behind a wife, daughter, son and grandchild.

“We would ask the press to respect our privacy at this sad time."

Officers from the Roads Policing Unit at Whitchurch are appealing for anyone who saw the incident or the group of cyclists prior to the incident, to get in touch.
