Police are reminding the public not to leave valuables in vehicles after a spate of thefts in Winchester and East Hampshire.
Over recent months “beauty spot” car parks have been particularly hit by thieves.
Sergeant Phil Shore from the Priority Crime Team says: “Please do not leave anything of value in your vehicle at any time. You may think your valuables are safe if you lock them in your boot-but we’d advise you not to do this.
“Often at these beauty spot car parks thieves are watching what you do. We’d ask that anyone seen acting suspiciously is reported to us-tell us what cars they are in. We can then investigate."
He added: “Replacing smashed windows on vehicles and stolen property such as bank cards is upsetting and an inconvenience. It can often be avoided by removing valuables and locking your vehicle.”
Recent thefts include:
January 17-two at Woodend car park, Heath Road, Soberton. In both cases a window was smashed. A handbag was stolen from one car.
January 17-car broken into at North Lane, Clanfield. A handbag was taken.
Car parks at Winchester Hill, Droxford; Farley Mount, Winchester and Cheesefoot Head, Winchester are also known hot spots for vehicle crime.
