Detectives investigating a robbery in Basingstoke have released an e-fit image of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident.

Shortly before 1pm on January 11, a 17-year-old boy was walking through the underpass at New Road, between Castons Yard and the back of McDonalds, when a man approached him demanded he hand over his phone and wallet.

The teenager then noticed that the man was holding a knife. The victim then handed over his wallet – black leather-style with a picture of the Joker from Batman on the front - and phone – a Samsung Texto E2222 - and the man left the scene.

The man is described as white, aged in his 20s, about 6ft tall and broad build. He was wearing a baggy black zip-up hooded-top with the hood up and faded blue jeans and trainers. He was untidy in his appearance and spoke with a Polish accent.

Detective Constable Natalie Stallworthy said: “This was a knifepoint robbery which occurred in broad daylight in a busy area of town, so someone must have seen something.

“Students from Queen Mary’s College regularly use this route to walk into the town centre, so may have seen a man similar to the e-fit picture.”
