Detectives investigating the shooting of a 26 year old man from London at an address in Northumberland Road, Southampton, at 12.30am on Friday, April 9, say it was a targeted incident.
Investigating officers are keen to reassure local residents that it was targeted at a specific address at the property, although the discharge of any firearm in a residential area has potentially serious consequences.
Detectives are following up a number of lines of enquiry and doing all they can to identify the offender but need the support and assistance of local residents.
The suspect is described as:
· Male
· Black or mixed race
· Short black hair
· He was wearing a black coat and jeans
Detective Inspector Gary Towse said: “This incident occurred on the edge of a residential area in the early hours when most people were at home and in bed. It is possible however that the person responsible may have been in the area during the day or days leading up to the incident and would have been seen by locals going about their daily business. We are therefore appealing to them to contact us if they saw or heard anything, no matter how insignificant it may appear.
The officer added: “We would particularly like to hear from potential witnesses who saw anyone calling at the address in the preceding days or if they heard anything out of the ordinary or saw vehicles or people in the area in suspicious circumstances, and especially anyone driving along Mount Pleasant Road at that time who may have seen a vehicle leaving in a hurry.”
