Detectives investigate shop robbery in Newport

Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a woman was threatened during a robbery at a shop on the Isle of Wight.
A man went into Hunnyhill Stores, Hunnyhill, Newport carrying a metal bar at approximately 8pm last night (Monday, November 15, 2010).
He threatened a female member of staff, and stole approximately £300 in cash before running away from the shop in the direction of Banner Lane and Albany Road.
The woman was not assaulted or injured.
The man was described as:
● White
● 5 ft 7 ins tall
● Slim to medium build
● Short dark hair
● Clean shaven
He was wearing:
● A red and white face mask
● Black / dark blue hooded top
● Dark tracksuit trousers
Investigating officer Detective Constable Lee Torrance of Isle of Wight CID said: “Although the woman working in the shop was not hurt, she is extremely upset and shaken by what happened.
“Police carried out a search of the area and house-to-house enquiries last night. We would like to thank everyone who has provided information during the investigation so far.
“Detectives continue to pursue several lines of enquiry, and I would appeal to anyone who was in the Hunnyhill area of Newport at around 8pm on Monday night to contact police. We are also eager to hear from anyone with information about the identity of the man responsible or who thinks they may have seen him near the shop around the time of the robbery.”
