Police are appealing for information after a man was assaulted and had his wallet stolen whilst walking down Waverley Road, Southsea.

Between 2.30am and 3am on Tuesday, February 3, a 19-year-old man from Southsea was making his was home from a night out with friends in Gunwharf Quays.

As he was walking home he was approached by a group of four or five men, all of whom where white and aged in their late teens or early 20s.

One of the group asked the man for his wallet. He refused and went to walk away, but he was attacked and the group repeatedly punched him to the head and body, and they took his wallet, before they ran away.

The wallet was a brown Rip Curl wallet, which contained bank cards along with £15 cash.

The man suffered several cuts and bruises to the face.

Detective Constable John Briggs said, “This was a vicious attack on a man simply trying to make his way home. We are appealing for any information which may help our investigation, and I would advise people to walk home with friends or in groups where possible.”
