Detectives appeal for witnesses after man assaulted in Petersfield
Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted as he walked home from a night out in Petersfield.
Shortly after 10pm on Saturday, December 17, the 51 year-old man was walking past Petersfield train station on Station Road, when he saw two teenage boys on the other side of the road, near to the railway footbridge.
They are both described as white, aged 17 or 18, about 5ft 8ins – 9ins tall and of slim build. One of the teenagers – who was wearing a white baseball cap, white trainers and dark-coloured tracksuit bottoms – asked the victim for change for the ticket machine. The man said he didn’t have any and continued walking.
About 30 seconds after this, he felt a heavy blow to his head and collapsed to his knees. He then felt another blow to his ribcage, which caused him to fall to the ground. He was then kicked to the face several times. The victim also felt someone reach into his coat pocket, which was empty.
It is believed a passing motorist sounded their horn and the attack stopped.
The victim sustained heavy bruising as a result of this incident.
Detective Constable Ewan Gardner said: “This was a terrifying and unprovoked attack and I need to identify those responsible as soon as possible.
“I am especially keen to trace a motorist who may have witnessed the incident and sounded their horn. I would urge this person to contact me as soon as possible.”
