Detectives are appealing for witnesses after an assault in Basingstoke on Thursday, July 23.

At around 10pm a 43-year-old man was assaulted by a group of youths in Pentland Close.

The victim suffered cuts and bruises to his head after being hit with a golf club and was treated at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital.

Detective Constable Jon Swift, of Basingstoke CID, said: “This was a particularly nasty attack that has resulted in the victim requiring hospital treatment.

“The assault was unprovoked and the victim is fortunate that his injuries were not more severe.

“We believe a group of four youths were responsible and we would ask anyone who saw anything in Pentland Close last Thursday night to contact us as soon as possible.”

A 27-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy from Basingstoke have been arrested and bailed in connection with this incident.
