Crack house closure order enforced in Southsea

Press Releases

Published: 25/07/2008

Magistrates have today granted an order to close a flat in Southsea for three months.

The order was passed following a joint application from police and Portsmouth City Council’s Anti Social Behaviour Unit, which was supported by evidence of drug dealing and anti social behaviour at the property.

Earlier this month officers carried out a warrant at Basement Flat 2, 136 Clarendon Road and made nine arrests, seizing cash and over 300 wraps of drugs from the flat.

Residents have since continued to come forward, providing information about drug related anti social behaviour at the address, enabling police and the council to successfully close down the property.

The flat will be emptied today and secured by police officers, who are also speaking to the community to inform them of the action taken.

Inspector Steve Hutchings said, “We will use any lawful means to bring these people to justice, and today’s action sends a strong message about how this kind of drug related behaviour will not be tolerated, and the robust stance we take against it.

“This order is the result of the community and key partners in the city working together effectively to bring a successful conclusion, and I would encourage residents to continue to come forward and give us information so that we can take action and maintain a safer Portsmouth for everyone.”
