Cordons lifted following discovery of unexploded device in Southsea

The cordons put in place at Jessie Road, Southsea following the discovery of an unexploded device have now been lifted –at around 9pm.

Earlier, around 100 homes were evacuated following the discovery.   Officers were alerted to the presence of a device and munitions in a suitcase in the bedroom of a house.   A Royal Navy team made the device and munitions safe.  

All those evacuated can now return to their homes. Roads in the area have also reopened.
