Detectives investigating an incident where two men were attacked by a group of men with wooden sticks in Southampton are today, Tuesday January 27, releasing CCTV images of two of the men they want to question about the attack.
The attack happened back in September 2008 and police issued a witness appeal at the time. Now CCTV images of two of the men police want to speak to has come to light and is being issued in the hope someone may be able to identify them.
The incident occurred shortly after two groups had a verbal argument outside the Red Lion Pub in Bedford Place at around 11.45pm on Saturday, September 20.
A short time later at around midnight, four of the men went off and grabbed
some pieces of wood from a skip in Henstead Road and started swinging them at the other two men as they stood next to the Sainsbury’s Local cash point machine.
One man received minor injuries to his arm and head and another, aged 19, needed nine stitches to a serious head wound. During the incident the men made their way between the Red Lion and Sainsbury’s Local in Bedford Place.
A 19-year-old-old man was arrested by police at the time and is currently on bail until February 20, while enquiries continue.
Officers are now asking for anyone who thinks they recognise the men in the CCTV stills to contact them.
Anyone who does know who they are or has any information about the crime is asked to call Detective Constable, Owain Davies at Shirley CID on 0845 045 45 45 or call Crimestoppers, the charity, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
