CCTV Pictures released of man wanted for bank robberies in Southampton
Press Releases
Published:
04/03/2009
Police in Southampton are today releasing CCTV pictures of a man wanted for carrying out two armed robberies in Southampton.
The first happened late afternoon on Thursday, February 19 at the Nationwide Building Society in Portswood Road. He threatened a cashier with a gun and demanded cash. He made off with around £4000.
In the second incident exactly a week later on Thursday February 26 at 4.50pm a man went in to
the Abbey Bank in Bitterne Precinct and again threatened staff with a gun before making off with about £1000. He dropped some of the money on his way out.
In both cases the robber has a very similar description and disguised himself with a scarf over his face. He is said to be around 6ft tall and with a thin face and pointy nose. He rode to and away from each robbery on a cycle.
Detectives believe it was the same man who committed both robberies and hope by releasing the CCTV stills someone may recognise him. Anyone who has any information about the robberies or who thinks they may know who the man may be is asked to contact the Operation Vivid team at Bitterne CID on 0845 045 45 45 or call Crimestoppers, the charity, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
