Police are appealing for witnesses after a single vehicle collision on the A334 at Wickham Road in the early hours of this morning.
The incident occurred shortly before 12.30am when, for reasons yet to be established the driver of a black Volkswagen Golf, an 18-year-old Southampton man, lost control of his vehicle and collided with a tree.
He was taken to Southampton General Hospital with what were thought to be life threatening injuries.
He remains in hospital today in a serious but no longer life threatening condition.
