Appeal for witnesses following van crash on M27 near Totton

Officers are appealing for witnesses after a van crashed as it was exiting the M27 at junction two near Totton.

Police received reports of a crash on the off-slip road of the eastbound carriageway of the M27 shortly after 1pm on Monday, June 28.

A 35-year-old man from Southampton was driving a white Mercedes Sprinter van when it struck the offside crash barrier at the end of the slip road.

The van continued on to the roundabout where the driver fell out and the van rolled on top of him.

The driver was trapped under the vehicle and had to be freed by Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service.

He sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital where he remains.

A section of road was closed for about four hours to allow officers to carry out a full investigation.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who saw the van immediately before the crash or who saw the incident.
