The number of substance-related violent crimes committed in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight has dropped by 9 per cent this Christmas.
In December 2008 there were 1,048 substance-related violent crimes.
In December 2009 there were 955 substance-related violent crimes.
This is a reduction of 93 crimes.
Hampshire Constabulary’s Assistant Chief Constable, Laura Nicholson said: “This is good news for all the people of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
"Alcohol-related violence occupies many hours of officers’ time and we receive calls everyday where alcohol is the root of the problem. Hampshire Constabulary and our partner agencies have been working hard to address this.”
Extra police patrols were out during the run-up to the festive period.
December 2008 also saw a reduction of substance-related violent crimes by 14 per cent compared to December 2007.
