Dont cross the line - rape campaign

So what is rape? Legally, it's where sex takes place between two people and one does not consent to it, and the man does not reasonably believe the other person is consenting.

Many people think of stranger rape - the stereotypical man lurking behind the corner waiting for a woman. This does happen, but rarely. In fact over half of all rapists already know their victim, and these offences are called acquaintance rapes. The offender and victim may be close friends, or work together, or perhaps they've had consensual sex in the past, but when it is unwanted and forced, this is still rape.

The 'Don't cross the line' campaign aims to raise awareness of the chain of events that can lead to rape; how alcohol and drugs can affect behaviour, and dispel the myths around what rape is and what the consequences are. The project takes the unique approach of targeting young men, asking potential offenders to consider their actions and whether they know what consent is and whether they would cross the line.

www.dontcrosstheline.co.uk - the campaign website gives details on the law around rape and serious sexual offences, explores the statistics that give the truth about rape, and tells you where you can get help and support.

Hollyoaks - the popular Channel 4 soap recently used a storyline about two friends, Gilly and Jacqui who had sex, and Jacqui reports Gilly to the police for rape. We helped out by giving them advice on what consent is and what it means to cross the line and keep going when you can't be sure the other person still wants to. Detective Chief Inspector Ben Snuggs, who leads the campaign for Hampshire Constabulary, has given advice and taken part in a video interview with Anthony Quinlan, the actor who plays Gilly.

Facebook page - we use this to try and encourage discussion about what rape is, and also to host an interactive game called Seal the Deal where you can play a man on a night out, and you choose options to determine what actions you take as you go to a bar, meet a girl, and go back to her flat. We have previously used Facebook adverts targeted at young men living in Hampshire encouraging them to play the game

YouTube interactive game - this is a longer version of the Facebook game that does not require flash to play. Can you get the girl?
