Chief Inspector Kory Thorne (below) is the District Chief Inspector for Test Valley.
Our aims for the Test Valley are quite simple:
Improve confidence in policing,
Reduce crime and;
Bring offenders to justice.
We will do this by following the six main policing priorities contained within the Hampshire Constabulary and Hampshire Police Authority’s Policing Plan 2010 - 2013.
The District of Test Valley has a population of approximately 109,800 living in 44,130 households and comprises two sectors:
Andover - covering the town of Andover and surrounding parishes and Romsey - covering the town of Romsey and surrounding parishes.
Chief Inspector Thorne took over in May 2010 and is in overall command of Test Valley District. He is supported by Inspector Ian Whyton (Andover) and Inspector Jacqueline Willson (Romsey).
Chief Inspector Thorne has been a police officer for 17 years and brings with him a wealth of operational experience. He was promoted to Chief Inspector in September 2006 and spent two years in the Community Safety department at Police Headquarters where he was the main point of contact for the Hampshire Local Area Agreement. He was also involved in helping to develop partnerships across the area.
In 2008 Chief Inspector Thorne left the Community Safety Department to work on a number of special projects as part of the Constabulary’s Service Delivery Department. In December 2009 he then moved to the Western Operational Command unit where he took up the post of Operations Chief Inspector.
Chief Inspector Thorne said “I am really pleased to have been appointed as the Chief Inspector in charge of policing for this District. I have lived in Test Valley for the last 22 years and as a police officer have never had the opportunity to serve here.
“I want to continue to build upon the district’s achievements over the last two years which have been as a direct result of the hard work and determination of all staff members across this district working closely with our partners.
“There have been some notable improvements over the last 12 months in Test Valley. In 2009/10 there were 6668 crimes reported in this area compared to 7869 in 2008/9 representing1201 fewer criminal incidents. Criminal damage incidents fell by 425 from 1830 incidents in 2008/9 to 1405 in 2009/10. Rowdy and nuisance behaviour is also showing an encouraging decline. Through this summer’s Anti-Social Behaviour campaign I am hopeful these figures will continue to improve.
“I know that for those people in the Test Valley who have been a victim of crime in the last year these figures will provide little comfort and that is why I want to continue working to reduce these figures even further and ensure that those who are unfortunate to become victims of crime receive a good service from us.
“I hope that as a team we will be able to continue to improve performance, reduce crime and anti-social behaviour, bring criminals to justice and improve confidence and satisfaction in local policing across the Test Valley.”
