Locally, we work with your community to find out what matters most where you live. We will work with you and our partner agencies to agree the main priorities for the area and how we will work together to tackle them.

Priorities for Andover South include:

  • Reduce anti-social behaviour in the Floral Way and Burghclere Down area.
  • Reduce anti-social behaviour in the town centre and also at River Way
  • Resolve issues of rowdy and incosiderate behaviour st Asda, Anton Mill Lane

These are the priorities that people in your local area have agreed with the Safer Neighbourhoods team. You can influence these priorities by contacting your team, attending a meeting or speaking to members of the team when you see them out and about.

Reducing anti-social behaviour and associated criminal damage

The team have set up operations to combat juvenile nuisance, criminal damage and anti-social behaviour which all affect the quality of life for local residents. Police community support officers (PCSOs) are regularly patrolling their designated beat areas and providing a reassuring police presence in the neighbourhood.

The team attends many community meetings to listen to local issues and concerns from residents. By attending these meetings allows officers the opportunity to give useful advice on crime prevention measures.

Reduce alcohol-related crime in the town centre

The team are actively involved with Neighbourhood Watch, Pub Watch and the Andover Businesses Against Crime. Currently there is a Home Office driven initiative called the Alcohol Misuse Enforcement Campaign (AMEC). There are two aims to this campaign the first of which is to patrol the town centre and visit all licensed premises in the area. Officers speak with the licence holders to establish if there are any problems with underage drinking and how the police can help.  The Violent Crime Strategy has been instrumental in reducing assaults in the Town Centre and the team are working with Pubwatch to ensure that it is run and managed by the licensees in the scheme.

The second aim of this campaign is to visit local licensees that police intelligence has shown to have underage drinkers. If police find any offenders their alcohol is seized and they are prosecuted accordingly. This campaign has helped to reduce the number of cases of juvenile nuisance caused in the town centre especially during the evenings.

There is also a 'hotspot' area identified by community issues in the area of Shepherds Spring Lane. Currently the team for the Andover South are working with community to tackle identified local issues including juvenile nuisance and criminal damage. Operations are continuing whereby officers are visiting sites where juveniles congregate, and to date have seized large quantities of alcohol, as well as some cigarettes, and made arrests for possession of cannabis. This has reduced the number of intoxicated youths in the area and lowered the calls to the town centre.

Officers are currently undergoing training which will culminate in partnership working with Test Valley Borough Council and other local agencies to work effectively in reducing crime and nuisance levels.

Beat Reports
There is a beat report created on a bi-monthly basis for each of the beats within the Andover South team area. These are distributed within the community to update you on what the priorities are for your local officers, and how they are working to tackle them, as well as giving crime prevention advice and details of upcoming meetings.
