CRIME AWARENESS
HELP US TO REDUCE CRIME IN YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD

Although crime levels are low in the New Forest, burglars and car crime criminals may be operating in your neighbourhood.  If you see anyone or anything suspicious in your neighbourhood, please contact the police immediately on 101 or dial 999 if a crime is taking place.

Always lock doors and windows when leaving your home unattended and do not leave valuables on view.

Apply the same security measures when leaving your car and never leave anything of value in your vehicle.  If it's not left in the vehicle, it can't be stolen.

What are we doing for you? There are two sets of priorities that we work to on the Safer Neighbourhoods team; Neighbourhood Priorities and Sector Priorities. The basic difference is that the communities determine Neighbourhood Priorities while the police decide upon the Sector ones.

Current Sector Priorities:
At the last Neighbourhood Management meeting there were not any issues that could be regarded as large enough to become a sector priority.  This does not mean that there is nothing going on; of course there is but it is not so challenging that we need to pool resources to tackle it.  This is brilliant news.

Current Neighbourhood Priorities We canvass the people of Lymington to try and find out what it is that is important to them. We do this at street meetings, surgeries, at the police station, by e-mail contact….everywhere and anywhere. We have developed a confidential e-mailing list of more than 1,000 people and every two months, we email them to ask ‘what do you want us to do?’ You tell us, we do it and then we let you know exactly what we have done. Further than that, we also use the system to send you copies of your bi-monthly neighbourhood report and to let you know immediately about any crime concerns or other issues that you ought to know about, we call these messages an e-lert. If you would like to sign up to this scheme then please email your details to lymington.snt@hampshire.pnn.police.uk  and we will add you to the mailing list. Your contact details will be kept secure and will not be shared with any other party or organisation.

If e-mail contact is not your preferred method of contact, in each neighbourhood there are other opportunities to meet with your local police constable or police community support officer. The venues, dates and times of these are detailed below. Please come along and visit us. We would like to hear your views and for you to tell us what you want.

You can also let us know your views by clicking on the Your Voice Counts link on the Constabulary home page.

The current priorities for Lymington and the surrounding areas include:

  • Tackling anti-social behaviour in Pennington Square and in Brookley Road car park in Brockenhurst
  • Targeting speeding motorists

These are the priorities that people in your local area have agreed with the Safer Neighbourhoods team. You can influence these priorities by contacting your team, attending a meeting or speaking to members of the team when you see them out and about.

Actions we have taken in relation to your priorities

You said...Last September you raised to us that you had an issue with Youths gathering in the evenings at Woodside Gardens, drinking alcohol and racing around in their vehicles causing annoyance to residents.
We delivered... As a result of increased patrols and work with the local youth we have seen a dramatic reduction in calls for service in and around this area and hopefully an improvement to your quality of life. As such we are planning to close this as a current community priority. This leaves your beat area without a Neighbourhood directed priority. Please contact one of the beat team to discuss issues that you believe we should be dealing with on your behalf.

You said...you wanted us to tackle anti-social behaviour in Pennington Square
We delivered...
We are pleased to report that Pennington has seen a decline in anti-social behaviour incidents. Your local officers have increased police patrols to deter and detect this type of behaviour have been dealing robustly with those caught committing offences.

You said...you wanted us to target speeding motorists, particularly around the approaches to the town centre.
We delivered...The Community Speedwatch Scheme is being launched locally and PC Ian Cross has been designated as the single point of contact for the area covered by Lymington police station. Any  volunteers or enquiries for this scheme should contact PC Cross at Lymington police station or by email at: lymington.snt@hampshire.pnn.police.uk

You said...
you wanted us to target and reduce anti-social behaviour at Brookley Road car park.
We delivered... We are pleased to report that the number of reports about anti-social behaviour in this area are reducing. Police are continuing to work in conjunction with the local council to provide facilities and diversionary activities for youths in other areas. Patrols in this area are still continuing.

We very much appreciate the support of the many diverse communities in Lymington - remember, we couldn't achieve results in making better areas to live and work without your continued help.
If you see anyone behaving suspiciously or they seem out of place in the area you have parked please contact us on 101. If it's an emergency dial 999.

Beat Reports

Beat reports are the newsletters we produce every two months for each of the beats within the Lymington area. These are distributed within the community to update you on what the priorities are for your local officers and how they are working to tackle them, as well as giving crime prevention advice and information about any upcoming meetings.
