Welcome to the New Forest North district Webpage.

Inspector James Douglas (below left) is responsible for the New Forest North area, while Inspector Paul Langridge (below right) is responsible for Totton and surrounding areas.

My name is Inspector James Douglas and I am the Sector Inspector responsible for the management and performance of the police teams that cover Fordingbridge, Burley, Ashurst and Woodgreen, Ibsley and Ringwood.

We cover a vast area that includes some of the most beautiful and unspoilt landscape in the country. As a local resident I aspire to both maintaining and improving the quality of life for visitors and local community alike. In terms of crime levels, the New Forest is still one of the safest places to live and I intend to keep it that way.

Over that past couple of months, I have had the opportunity to speak at various Parish Council assemblies to explain our local priorities and policing policies. I have been delighted at the warm welcome and response and am happy to attend meetings at your request.

I have been keen to explain that we are pushing hard to increase our engagement with local residents and to set our agenda based on their concerns. We will still be driven to some extent by local crime trends, but we want to address community issues in order to increase confidence in the service that we can provide. It is interesting that many people are still confused at how to contact local officers if their concerns do not merit and emergency 999 call.......for the best response you can send an e-mail directly to the local officers who will pick this up within 24 hours and will respond to your concerns.

The two relevant e-mail addresses are:

fordingbridge.snt@hampshire.pnn.police.uk

We had a very successful year last year in which the total numbers of crime were reduced by 10 percent, and I am delighted to report that we are continuing to reduce this figure, this currently equates to nearly 6 percent (or 25 fewer victims of crime since April).

You may have seen the recent publicity around the launch of Operation Celsius- which is aimed at reducing theft of handbags and other valuables from vehicles parked in New Forest beauty spot car parks. The initial results are very encouraging with the arrest of three prolific offenders and a huge reduction in this type of preventable crime. However, we are continuing to reinforce the crime prevention message to both local residents and visitors:

The message is simple:
IF IT's NOT LEFT IN THE VEHICLE, IT CAN’T BE STOLEN.

At the beginning of June we launched our force wide Summer Anti-Social Behaviour Campaign. We will be targeting all aspects of Anti-Social Behaviour, such as speeding, littering, fly-tipping as well as youth related nuisance.

Additional officers and police staff will be utilised to provide extra visibility and resilience to respond to spontaneous reports of local problems. Please contact us on 101 or via the e-mail links if possible, so that we can gain an accurate assessment of the problems and respond accordingly.

As we move towards one of the busiest times of the year, it appears that we may be in for a long overdue hot summer to break all records! To ensure that we can preserve and hopefully improve the quality of life in this beautiful part of the world, we really need your support and engagement in order to focus our resources correctly and efficiently.

Your local Safer Neighbourhoods teams are totally committed and highly motivated to preserve a high quality of life. If something is impeding on this, please let us know and we will either address it ourselves or work with our partner agencies to resolve it.

Insp Paul LangridgeI am Inspector Paul Langridge (right) and I am responsible for overseeing the policing of Totton and the surrounding areas. We aim to provide a high level of service delivery to all residents and visitors to the area. We are continuously looking to reduce crime, reduce the fear and perception of crime and tackle anti-social behaviour.

Police in Totton are keen to promote partnership working to deal with issues that directly affect all members of the community. The police are involved in a number of partnerships involving the town council, youth groups and outreach workers.

Tactical cycle patrols, primarily conducted by Safer Neighbourhoods officers, have been used to good effect in the area to provide highly visible policing and mobile response. Additionally, these officers are due to receive portable CCTV equipment from partnership funds which will be used to secure evidence of anti-social behaviour and other criminal offences.

Work is now underway with partners and local young people in the West Totton area to try and secure funds to operate an outreach roject for youth workers. The aim of this is to arrange activities and a meeting place for our young people to enjoy and participate in.

Operation Administrate is an initiative to tackle anti-social behaviour in the area. This will help prevent general nuisance issues and reduce underage drinking in public places. It is anticipated that this will also have an impact on criminal damage offences.

Initiatives have been carried out at car parks in the New Forest which have been subject to car crime. These have produced a reduction in vehicle crime offences, and these initiatives will continue throughout the year.

Are you a landlord in this area? Are you aware of your responsibilities in relation to drug use in your properties?

New Forest North sector is comprises two Safer Neighbourhoods teams, covering the following areas:
