Chief Inspector Lucy HutsonThe New Forest District covers the picturesque New Forest National Park and adjoining areas between the popular seaside town of Bournemouth in the west, and the city of Southampton in the east. The district has a population of more than 180,000 and attracts millions of visitors every year.

The district is managed by Chief Inspector Lucy Hutson, (pictured left)

The New Forest District operates sector policing with increasing ownership for geographical areas being given to sergeants, constables and police community support officers (PCSOs). Each area or neighbourhood has a named officer.

Chief Inspector Hutson said: "Safer Neighbourhoods teams enhance the service provided at a local level. The New Forest is a safe place to live, visit and work in and we are constantly striving to provide the best service within our limited resources.

"Each of the New Forest police stations will have details of where and when you can meet your local officers within the community. It will also show what the agreed local priorities are at that current time. This detail will be delivered at your neighbourhood level.

"You can also use your post code to identify your local Safer Neighbourhoods team on the home page of this website. The local priorities will also be available within that page. I would encourage you all to register with your local Safer Neighbourhoods teams by emailing them to enable them to send you their bi-monthly beat report. This will give you an overview of what is happening in your neighbourhood.

"Partnership work is fundamental to our role. This has developed significantly with advances being made within our Operational Joint Action Group (Ops JAG) and our Partnership Intervention Panel (PIP). The Ops JAG meets once a month where partners from the Crime and Disorder Partnership, together with the Neighbourhoods sergeants and officers, receive information from our analyst. Crime trends and issues such as rowdy and nuisance behaviour within the neighbourhoods are then discussed and actioned. Details of the meetings and activities are available on our New Forest Community Safety web site as a method of keeping our communities informed on what we are doing within the Neighbourhoods. This can be found at www.communitysafety.newforest.gov.uk "The (PIP) meets every two weeks and again is represented by partners, with the intention of reducing criminal and poor behaviour by individuals within our Neighbourhoods. Referrals are made by a variety of sources and a multi-agency approach is adopted to provide an effective way of diverting individuals away from crime and anti social behaviour through interventions such as Parenting Orders, Acceptable Behaviour Contracts, (ABCs), and where appropriate, by applying for Anti-Social Behaviour Orders (ASBOs).

"I am confident that the policing style within the New Forest District will:

Help deliver a reduction in the overall numbers of victims of crime Solve more crimes by catching more criminals Improve our quality of service by understanding what is important to our communities Engage with communities to ensure that they are kept fully informed of our work to support them and Continue to make the New Forest a safe place to live, work and visit"
