Locally, we work with your community to find out what matters most where you live. We will work with you and our partner agencies to agree the main priorities for the area and how we will work together to tackle them.
Priorities for Hythe and surrounding areas include:
- To target alcohol-related incidents and anti-social behaviour at local pubs
- To reduce thefts of scrap metal and criminal damage at Marchwood Recycling Centre and theft of lead from building sites
- To target and reduce thefts from boats at Ashlett Creek Yacht Club
These are the priorities that people in your local area have agreed with the Safer Neighbourhoods team. You can influence these priorities by contacting your team, attending a meeting or speaking to members of the team when you see them out and about.
Action we have taken in relation to your priorities
Anti-social behaviour is a problem in this area and officers are tackling the issue head on, in order to reduce the nuisance for the communities in general, and also to impact on the level of alcohol abuse and criminal damage, which is sometimes linked to anti-social behaviour.
'Hot spots' are areas which are used regularly, and continually change. Using intelligence received and local knowledge, officers are targeting these while on patrol. The arrival of police community support officers (PCSO) has helped to increase the police presence on the streets, providing a deterrent for potential offenders and reassurance for residents.
The Safer Neighbourhoods team continues to focus on anti-social behaviour and youth nuisance which are their priorities. Continuing efforts from officers frequently ensure large quantities of alcohol are seized and many people spoken to. Every weekend on Friday and Saturday evenings the community van visits known problem areas and the level of criminal damage has been reduced alongside the seizure of alcohol. This kind of good work will continue.
We continue to support the local Pub Watch scheme which has been set up to deal with and reduce alcohol related crimes. New members are joining all the time and all licensed premises are welcome. For further information please contact PC Aubry Hendy at Hythe police station on 101.
The Safer Neighbourhoods team have helped to organise a beach hut scheme in Calshot. This has the benefits of giving security advice to beach hut owners and also ways to help prevent crime on the foreshore. Police are also taking action by having reassurance patrols on the foreshore and this is supported by members of the beach hut scheme.
