We now have well established Safer Neighbourhoods teams (SNTs) comprising of police officers, police community support officers (PCSOs), Accredited Community Support Officers (ACSOs), Special Constables and volunteers. Street Pastors also operate across Fair Oak, Horton Heath, Eastleigh town centre, Hedge End, West End, Botley, Bishopstoke, Chandlers Ford, Velmore, Hiltingbury and Valley Park. These teams work with other statutory agencies, volunteer groups and the community to try and make a real difference. Each team provides a visible presence in each neighbourhood and works closely with our partners and the public to tackle anti-social behaviour, solve crime and build community confidence. They deal with the priority issues and concerns of the people in their area – and keep the community updated on progress made on previous priorities.
Find out more about your local team by clicking on the area where you live on the map above.
We continue to try to involve community members in the work we do, by finding out what is important to you and the concerns you have. We are aware that anti-social behaviour continues to be a complaint raised and we are keen to work with other agencies and the community to deal with these problems when they occur. We want to ensure that you, as community members, get a real say in the way that your area is policed. We want to provide a reassuring presence for law abiding citizens and want to make any potential criminals think twice about committing crime. The SNT are supported by Targeted Patrol Teams (TPTs) who work to provide a 24 hour response to dealing with the crimes in progress and calls that require a more urgent response. Both teams seek to provide an excellent service across Eastleigh and Romsey Districts.

What have we achieved over the last year?
In the year 2010/11 the Borough of Eastleigh achieved the largest reduction in dwelling burglaries across the whole of Hampshire. There were 44 per cent less burglaries than the year before. This was achieved through a combination of targeting our most prolific offenders and working with our partners to prevent the opportunities for this type of offence to occur. In addition to this we saw reductions of 23 per cent in rowdy and inconsiderate behaviour, 17 per cent less criminal damage, 14 per cent less violent offences, and an overall reduction in all reported crime of 10 per cent. The teams on this District also solved 28 per cent of all reported crime to police. This is testament to the hard work, commitment and willingness of all the many people who are working in our communities.
What next?
While there are financial challenges for the police service nationally my commitment to you is that you will not see a difference in the service that we provide on the frontline to all residents of Eastleigh and Romsey. We will have the same number of staff providing the same excellent service across the Borough. Over the year 2011/12 we will hone in our efforts to further reducing crime, focusing on violent crime, burglaries, vehicle crime and incidents of criminal damage and anti - social behaviour.
We are keen to know your views and to know how you feel about your community. On the following web pages you will find opportunities for you to meet your local SNT and tell them your views. There are many opportunities to see them at pre-arranged meetings such as Local Action Group meetings (which are attended by police and their partners), Beat Surgeries, (which are held at places where the community already gather like coffee mornings, supermarkets, libraries etc), via meetings held by our partners (Parish and Town Council meetings), Street Meets (a meeting to address a particular problem) or when you see one of the team members on patrol. In addition there are email addresses listed for the local teams.
If you have the time, we would welcome your views on what the issues are for your area. We will be running a campaign to reduce anti-social behaviour over the summer, working hard to find long term solutions to what is an annual problem in some locations. This is a campaign where all staff from the Hampshire Constabulary are involved and we need to know from you where you want us to concentrate our actions.
How can I help?
There are opportunities for you to help deliver the above and be part of the extended police family. Members of the Special Constabulary are volunteers who have the same powers as regular police officers and work approximately 4 – 8 hours per week with their local station. If you are interested in becoming a special constable please see the recruitment pages for more information. In addition to this there are volunteer placements available at almost all police stations where you can assist your local neighbourhood team in managing crime and community issues, again please view the recruitment pages for more information.
We also have an established Neighbourhood Watch scheme in operation across the District. This is one of the simplest ways to help keep your community safe. The link below will provide you with more information. I would encourage you to join.
Eastleigh district remains a safe place to live, work and visit and our aim is to maintain that reputation and work towards making the district even safer.
