BURGLARY WARNING - Student Homes & Multiple Occupancy Dwellings Being Targeted
Are you a student living in Southampton? Burglars are targeting homes in the area of the flowers estate near the university. Please tell other students and ensure you all secure your rooms and property when leaving it unattended.
Your local priorities
Locally, we work with your community to find out what matters most where you live. We will work with you and our partner agencies to agree the main priorities for the area and how we will work together to tackle them.
Police And Community Together (PACT) meetings have been introduced throughout Southampton and are currently held quarterly in each of the Portswood police neighbourhoods. The meetings are organised and chaired by officers from your Safer Neighbourhoods team and involve people who form part of a Key Individual Network (KIN). A KIN is a key person from the community with good contacts within that community.
People currently involved include your local councillors, representatives from local resident associations, neighbourhood groups, local housing associations, care homes, housing societies, school head teachers, police, Southampton City Council and Southampton University amongst others. PACT meetings are a formal way to identify areas of concerns of the local community, local issues are discussed and from here we set your community priorities for the next three months.
Your Safer Neighbourhoods team will then set action plans to tackle the issues and use multi agency strategies to collectively address the priority with an aim to achieve the objective and resolve the problem. If you feel you would like to get involved in this process and assist with your local community issues, then please contact us and we can will advise you on how to become involved in the meetings. This is your opportunity to have a say on the priorities for your neighbourhood. If you are interested in this please send us your e-mail to: portswood.snt@hampshire.pnn.police.uk
Forthcoming PACT meetings:
- Mansbridge PACT dates are on February 2, 2012 and March 3, 2012 in the Community Room, Mansbridge Primary School at 7.30 pm.
- Flowers PACT is on January 9, 2012 at St Albans Church, Tulip Road at 7.30 pm. Details from this meeting will appear here soon so please revisit us to find out what priorities were agreed for this area.
Community priorities for Flower Roads and Leaside Way area
At the last PACT (Police and Community Together) meeting held in October, priorities were agreed as:
- To monitor and reduce parking obstructions in and around Lobelia Road and Bluebell Road.
- To reduce vehicle related nuisance (including use of motorbikes or mopeds being ridden illegally or in an anti social manner).
.
At the Mansbridge PACT (Police And Community Together) meeting held at the Fleming Arms, Wide Lane in October 2011, it was decided to set these priorities:
- To reduce vehicle related nuisance (including cycling on pavements, use of mini motos, trails bikes and motorbikes being ridden illegally or in an anti social manner) on Wide Lane, Walnut Avenue, Capon Close, Howard Way and Woodmill Lane between the hours of 8 am - 9 am and 2.30 pm - 8 pm.
- To reduce drug activity in and around Northfield Corner, Monks Way, Brookside Hoise, Itchenview Close, Pilgrim Place and Westfield Corner between the hours of 4 pm - 2 am.
Action taken in relation to your priorities
Flowers and Leaside:
You Said: Reduce underage drinking and relating anti social behaviour in Lilac Road, Honeysuckle Road and Burgess Road in the evenings.
We Did: We have noticed a reduction in the amount of anti-social behaviour calls we have been receiving in this area over the past three months and this has greatly improved since last summer. The police identified the groups that were responsible for causing the anti-social behaviour and dealt with them by dispersing them from the area, informing their parents of their behaviour and working closely with Southampton City Council in relation to breaches of tenancy. We have seen an improvement with underage drinking in the area and there has been a reduction of the amount of alcohol seized from young persons. We do feel that a prison sentence of a young individual who was seen as a ring leader causing problems within the area has also assisted with the reduction in anti social behaviour and has sent the right message out to the younger geeneration that this behaviour will not be tolerated.
You Said: Continue to reduce the risk of road traffic incidents at the junction of Carnation Road and Lobelia Road between 7 pm - 10 pm.
We Did: Police officers and Police Community Support Officers have patrolled the area to see if any vehicles were obstructing the junction which would increase the road traffice accidents. Our Roads Policing Unit showed an active presence in the area to deal with motorists speeding and driving anti socially to prevent further accidents and offences taking place. We also informed Highways Agency of the residents' concerns in case any signage or preventatives could be installed.
You Said: Reduce anti social behaviour and littering in the play area and playground of Bassett Green School between 5 pm - 10 pm.
We Did: Police officers and PCSOs have been patrolling the area at the peak times. However, the times we have been on site, we have noticed this area being used by children using unacceptable behaviour. If any individual is causing anti social behaviour on these premises, they will have their details taken, be asked to leave the site and a letter will be sent home to the child's parents. We will continue to monitor the school playground area of Bassett Green School over the summer months.
Mansbridge: (action taken in relation to previous priorities)
You Said: Reduce anti-social behaviour, drink and drug related nuisance in and around Itchen View, Itchenside Close and Octavia Play Park between 4 pm - 2 am daily.
We Did: Police have been patrolling this area during the peak times and dispersing the youths if they have been acting in an anti social manner. We have seen a marked improvement in the amount of anti-social behaviour being reported and there has been a reduction in the amount of underage drinking in the area.. However, we have concerns about the drug activity in the the area and will continue to focus on this and try to identify individuals involved by increasing patrols and police presence and carrying out drug searches.
You Said: Target vehicle related nuisance in and around Northleigh Corner and Walnut Avenue between 2 pm - 10 pm.
We Did: Police have been patrolling at the key times and have identified two offenders riding motorbikes in an anti social manner. This has been followed up with a joint visit from radian housing and the police to the individuals in the presence of their parents. we have since seen a reduction in the calls received since this action has been taken.
